Need advice on a N. Amer. big game rifle

You just posted THE best reason for a guy in North America to buy a CZ550 Magnum in .375.

I know you CAN zap a moose with a 220gr in a 30-06, but I'd rather be a little overgunned than undergunned on game that large.

If you like your rifles light and handy the 45/70 guide gun might fit the bill, but 45/70 ballistics are like throwing a football compared to a belted magnum.

You may want to consider a stainless rifle, and Winchester, Remington and Savage all have reasonably priced stainless .375's.

Good luck and good hunting.

Wild,

Details please! What about it did not impress you?

If the action was a little stiff, that is very typical of a new Model 7. They are very stiff until they work in a little bit and then they become very smooth and light. This was my only complaint with the rifle when I got it. An evening or two dry-firing at people on TV solved that problem.

The rifle as pictured is very close to the one I bought from the custom shop. Mine does not have a "magnum contour" barrel and is 20" instead of 22". Mine has the laminate stock, but is the Mannlicher style. This just shifts the weight forward a bit - at least that's what I tell myself, I really bought it because I like the looks of a Mannlicher stock and since I was building a custom rifle, why not?

My barrel is also free floated (the Mannlicher stock doesn't actually attach to the barrel up forward). But the advert on this 673 doesn't specify whether the barrel is floated or not.

So, details please!

Keith

At least the originals had the beneift of true retro styling....the rib on the 673 looked like a guy today wearing clear platform shoes with goldfish swimming in em...

I know this is an old thread, but why do some people hate the Rem 600/673 vent rib so much? I LOVE IT! No other rifle looks like it. The rib stands out from anything else out there. Then there is the awesome front sight. Maybe I was introduced to shooting at a very young age with a Rem 512-X that had the very same shark fin front sight that I love so much, but at least there is a bit of character to it!!!
I get disgusted looking at the "new" rifles being offered today. Poor quality wood or cheap plastic stocks, dumb looking weaver rails and no iron sight (available) on the barrel. The most character available today in a production rifle is a laminate thumbhole stock. I am a fan of the 673, I own one and have used it on game with resounding success. The .350 Rem Mag could be made better if it were non-belted, no doubt in my mind that the belt is useless on this cartridge. But as it is, the .350 RM is a fine hunting cartridge in factory load and even better when loaded with 225-250gr bullets of your choice. I prefer 225gr Nosler partitions

In conclusion, the 673 in .350 RM knocks stuff down and looks good doing it, period.

My thoughts,

Alek
