As the title states, I'm looking for a powder for both 40 and 45 with both jacketed and lead.

Right now I'm running SR4756 for the 40. I have not started to load lead in the 45 acp yet but I'm running Clay's for the plated stuff. I get my bullets from Missouri and will probably use 180 TCFP for the 40 and 230 RNFP for the 45, unless someone has a better recommendation. I'm also looking for the cost of the powder to be reasonably priced. I use a Lee Auto Disk. The pistols are FNP-40 and a Glock 21 Gen1.

I haven't found a better powder for 40S&W, or 45ACP than Power Pistol. Course I load jacketed bullets, but should work for lead also. Power Pistol looks like sand, and flows through my Lee Pro Auto Disk, very consistantly.

Check out Titegroup. I use it in the 40, 45 ACP, and 45 LC. It's cheap, its good and functions well in my pistols. I also like AA #5 in my 45's. but if cost is an issue, I say look into Titegroup.

Hodgdon Universal (clays) is a medium / quick burning powder that is well suited for for .45 Colt loads up past the level of non Ruger revolvers, yields good accuracy and velocity with the ,40 S&W and is good for use with 230 gr bullets in the .45 acp.
Universal is a virtual match for Alliant Unique which is a non magnum do it all powder. Universal is a little more energetic than Unique and burns cleaner.
My experience is that Universal works just fine in anything less than full on magnum loads in most handguns. AND it is inexpensive & has small charge weights for caliber.

W231 for economical target loads, AA#5 for higher velocity service-type loads.
