I recently picked up a Howa Ranchland in .223, and while it's a perfectly suitable rifle as is, there are a few things I don't like about the stock barrel, mostly the 1-12 twist and very light contour. So i was kicking around the idea of having a new tube installed. Kind of a medium sporter contour, 1 in (7, 8, or 9, haven't decided yet) twist with a 223 Wylde chamber.

This rifle is kind of just an every day rifle for me... I don't need it to shoot half inch groups, and I will run reloads as well as whatever cheap factory stuff I happen across. I bought the rifle because I felt a bolt action 223 would allow me to get in lots of practice with a cheap and pleasant to shoot centerfire, as well as being usable for hogs and maybe our little 120lb deer, which is why I would like a twist rate able to stabilize a heavier bullet.

For my needs I just don't think a Krieger or Lilja is neccisary. Is there anyone out there making decent barrels at a decent price? Or should I just go ahead and get one of the top tier tubes while I'm at it?
