Looking for a scope for my oh so light and oh so hard-kicking model 7 in .308. I'm thinking hard about somthing like a 2-7X33 and would like a reticle with drop marks for longer range (300 tops) shooting at game. Any thoughts? I would like to keep it around $250 or under if possible.

For out to 400 yards I've used a 2.5X scout scope and been very happy with it. I've taken my conventional 4X fixed scope out to 300 yards and been happy with it. These are what I have on my hunting rifles. Neither shots at these distances were at live game. Just some longer than normal distance range practice. My max ethical for me is 200 yards and I'd prefer to stay within 150 yards.

I have used the VXII Ultralite 2x-7x for a similar application and been very pleased with it. It lacks the BDC reticle and retails for just over three Franklins but is otherwise an pretty close match...

Take a look at the Burris 2-7x35mm Fullfield II Ballistic Plex E1 riflescope--seems to fit your needs. 11.4" long, 12 oz., $179+free shipping here: http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-2-7x35mm-fullfield-ii-ballistic-plex-e1-reticle-riflescope.html

I've never owned this scope nor bought from that site...and I'm not a ballistic reticle kinda guy---but I do have a prior generations Burris 2-7x36mm Compact on a Browning MicroMed 7mm-08 that is my go-to and accounts for my best whitetail--oughta be very nice on a M7 for <$200, IMO. Might do a search for it on other sites, too.
