Need cheap Holster ideas.

Hello all,

Kind of a weird request for a holster huh? The reason I want them to be cheap is I live in California, don't carry, don't compete, am not allowed to draw from a holster at my local ranges. I pretty much want a holster for my two autos (Kimber Classic Gold Match/Sig 226r) to practice draw/present/reset/holster mechanics, and if I ever take a SD class I'll need one for that too.

I know with a good holster theres craftsmanship and ease of carry for 14 hours, I don't need that. I'm thinking a Kydex? in either Blackhawk on the low end or Bladetech on my high end? Paddle? or OWB? And either way something in the $25-$30 range +-

Any thoughts and input would be much appreciated.

i agree check out uncle mikes, they are not the greatest but they would fit your needs. i hve a fobus that works for the range bu not carry which carry isn't a requirement for you so that might be a way to go too.

btw i prefer paddle holsters and they are owb. belts work fine but the paddle is my preference.
 
I have found that Don Hume holsters are a good product for a very fair price. The link I provided is for all the holsters they have which will fit the Sig 226R. Many are in the $30 to $50 range. You might see something you like and then you will have an inexpensive holster that isn't cheap.
 
If you are serious about taking a SD class, and may want to go to some more advanced settings, a Blackhawk Serpa w/ paddle attachment will hold up a lot better over time.

Some more questions...for what I'm doing, is there a feature I should be looking for or stay away from? i.e. High Ride vs. drop down vs. retention strap vs "FBI" or adjustable cant? etc.

Those features shouldn't be an issue for a range holster.

Highride makes the gun ride higher on the holster than normal, usually for concealment. It could slow down the draw or to some be uncomfortable.

FBI cant is a slight forward cant, usually about 15 degrees IIRC (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Retention straps are a great idea for a range holster, but can slow down draw time also. The flimsy uncle mikes nylon straps are the worst. A good idea to have, but shouldn't be the only form of retention.
 
If we're talking "cheap" quality, then Crossbreed. My Supertuck's not even that old and the kydex shell is already showing signs of stress cracks at the corners of the open bottom. His belt clips are known for breakage, too.

Check out the for sale classfied area. I'm happy with a Ky-tac.
If you ever take up a shooting game, you might as well buy the holster now.
You might get tied of California in the future.
 
I agree with ArchAngelCD. I bought a pair of Done Hume leather holsters for about $40 for both of them. One IWB and one OWB. I really am surprised at the quality. Not bad for 2x the price.
