Need Help Deciding Between 686 or 642?

I went with my buddy to look at some SW revolvers. Now I've got the bug too. We tried a 686 Plus and a 642. The DA was a lot smoother on the 686. It felt gritty on the 642. Does the DA get smoother with use?

Yes. Also, try looking at different examples of the same gun. I've owned 3 686's and they all had a different trigger feel. And I bought them all new.

For what you desribed, the 686 is the one you want.

For you first revolver, you might consider these too:



Model 60 .357 3" J Frame. All steel and 3" bbl makes it controllable

Model 66 .357 2 1/2". Smaller than 686 & larger than J Frame

Model 66 .357 4"
