Maybe I'm going crazy, but I thought that earlier this year the governor signed into law the ability to keep a firearm in your car in the parking lot of your employer even if your employer does not allow weapons on the premises. There's a big discussion here in the office right now and I need to show this to HR, but I can't find the actual law anywhere. Does anyone have a link? I've looked through the SLED handgun laws section and all I find is the part saying that you can have a gun in your car. But then there's the section that says a business/employer can ban them. Can anyone help?

I got news for you, I dont see it anywhere where it was passed. I hope you didnt raise this discussion to HR yet.....

I'm not aware of this change being put in place by Gov. Haley. Why don't you contact your State Rep. and see if he/she can help answer the question for you.

Well this has me a little worried, but no big deal yet. I'm heading home at lunch and I'll dig out the letter that I got from Gov Haley earlier this year where I thought for sure she referenced this update to the law. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks everyone for looking.

OK, so I found the letter that Gov Haley wrote me in August of 2012. I'm not crazy because in it she says that 'there are steps we can take to make exercising your right to bear arms more practical -- steps like the one we took last year protecting the rights of employees to safely stow firearms in their vehicles when at work.' I'll scan the letter tomorrow and post if anyone wants to see it. It looks like it's H. 3994 (link below), but I've never looked up a bill before so I'm not sure how to validate that it was approved. Anyone?

Can't find anything either. Hey, send Nikki an e-mail and ask her if it was ever passed?

The letter is attached. I'll send an email and see if one of her people can figure out if she was speaking of a bill that never passed or something that did.

Good find Alsaqr.

The bill is not necessarily dead. The bill referring to CC in bars was voted on and passed in June of this year in the House. It was sent to the Senate, but didn't make it to vote before the legislature adjourned. It will be brought up again in the Senate in January.

It sometimes takes a while for items to move through both houses. Unfortunate but true. :banghead:
