Need Help Identifying old 38 Revolver

Hello,

I just picked up this revolver from my wife's grandfather who stated he's had this gun for 50 + years and was wondering if anyone could help with identification.

It appears to be an Enfield No. 2 but I can't seem to find that they made a snub nose version so I'm thinking this was modified but it looks pretty professional.

"...appears to be an Enfield No. 2..." 1960's vintage commercial variation of a No. 2 Mk I*. It'll be a .38 S&W. Rumoured to have been shortened in 1960 by Seaport Traders. Suspect there's a lot of speculation here.

No original No. 2 revolvers were originally made with short barrels, but in the post-war era, many were cut down (as were many surplus S&W revolvers) to meet the needs of personal defence and plain clothes police. Much of this work was very well done, as it should have been, being the product of the old English firm of Cogswell & Harrison which at that time was owned by Sam Cummings, president of Interarms.
