Hey guys,
I was given this old single shot Sears Roebuck 22.
Its a model 41DLA, I'm sure that its a Marlin.
I'll bet its a pretty good plinker if I can give it a thorough cleaning,
but I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the bolt.
I know its not a real technical question but I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Broadbill

pull the trigger i would assume. when the trigger is pulled the bolt slides out freely on many bolt action 22's.

Your gun may be entirely different, but here's what little I know:

On some bolts (Winchesters?), you need to cock the firing pin and put the safety in the middle position (allows the bolt to be worked, but not the trigger). Depress a little tab just behind and below the bolt, then it slides right out.

A quick look at the Numrich website indicates the Sears 41DLA is a Marlin 122. They also have a schematic of the rifle, but I have not found a manual showing dissassembly yet.

I've seen a couple of .22's over the years that had the trigger hitting the triggerguard when you pulled it back and the bolt wouldn't release. Had to take the triggerguard off first to remove the bolt and then later do a little filing on the triggerguard to gain enough clearance.

In looking at the schematic and parts list, there is a bolt stop, bolt stop pin, and bolt stop spring listed. Maybe the retaining pin has to be removed (from the bottom of the receiver with the stock removed), and the bolt stop & spring taken out?

Thanks for all the input.
It was found in my aunts attic and was probably never cleaned since it was new. There was some surface rust and pitting but I figured it would be a perfect training rifle for my youngest sons first trip to the range.

I removed it from the stock and took out what appeared to be the bolt stop screw but still nothing. I played with the safety and trigger in all positions and even rotated the rear cocking mechanism. All to no avail.

I can clean it from the muzzle if I have to. It won't kill the gun. It just frustrates me cause I know it has to come out.
