Concept: Take a stock P220 Carry Elite Stainless and cut the receiver to accomodate stock P220 Compact magazines and grip panels.
I wonder if anyone happens to have a photo or two of the P220 Compact mainspring, boot and hammer strut setup. If you know anything about how the hammer strut & spring on the compact compares to the standard P220, that would be helpful, too.
Other info that would be handy has to do with the disassembly of the P220 Compact magazines. Is the base of that magazine interchangeable with those of stock P220 8-rd magazines. IOW, do the two magazines look identical at the bottom when you remove the caps?
First, I'd like the limited size & capacity of the P220 Compact with [most of] the weight of the P220 stainless. I'd also remove the trigger guard hook & tactical rail of the Elite Stainless, plus quite a bit (if not all) of the beavertail. Finally, I'd have it all Melonized black to provide what I feel would be a superior finish & case hardening that I wouldn't have with say a P220 Compact alloy frame/Nitron gun.
Any advice, photos or first-hand knowledge of the backstrap/mainspring setup on the Compact would be greatly appreciated.
Gun would look like this:
Not pretty, but I think you have to imagine no tac rail, no finger hook, minimal beavertail and...black, as God intended. It wouldn't look so chunky, plus first choice is to accomodate the stock P220 Compact magazines...so there'd be the pinky flare there, too. This is how the P220 Elite Stainless looks with the tac rail/trigger guard work:
..and the shortened beavertail:
