The left side knob (windage knob?) is missing off my M1 and I want to order the part off of numrich, but they have two different versions listed, and I don't know which kind I need. One is the new style, the other is the old style, and one is the whole pinion thing. My garand is a century. So which one do I need? (I'm looking to spend as little money as possible also, so if there's somewhere else selling it cheaper, that info would be appreciated as well).
thanks

I may be able to offer you a knob off of mine. Will have to see which side of mine was broken. Also will have to figure out how to remove the pinion from the sight. My new knob is on a pinion and I have no idea how to replace it or take the sight apart. I you get any good directions let me know.

Here's the procedure for detailed dis-assembly of the rear sight

With your rifle being a Century, I don't think you are worried about historical configuration accuracy. That is, you don't care about being 'Correct'. With that said, the new version is fine. Interestingly enough, the difference between the new and old versions is the right hand knob and not the left hand knob.

Keep us posted on your repair progress.

creep,

YOur M1 is missing the bezel and screw for the elevation spindle. YOur best bet is to order the entire elevation spindle and be done with it.

BTW... new T105-E version.

Best,

Garands forever

You need the elevation pinion assembly. You can't really buy the piece-parts for it. Make sure you get a new one. A worn out one won't hold the aperture up, and there are plenty of those floating around.
