Need Help

I have a buddy in Iraq and he has some crappy M9 mags made by Checkmate that dont feed more then 2 rounds. I want to send him some mags, ASAP, I need to know who makes DEPENDABLE M9 mags.

He is a scout in Troop C, 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry.

Here is a picture of him.

I am sending some anyway, if he does not receive them it will not be from lack of trying. His Checkmate magazines have already failed to feed in a fire fight.

If you just send him some new springs, I've heard that takes care of the problem. That way, there wouldn't be any issues of getting them to him.

I sent my Son-in-Law four mags, w/pouches, in Iraq. He is an Apache Longbow gunner and the Army only issued him one mag and he wanted some back-ups. Can't blame him for that.

Thanks Guys,

I just placed an order with Wolff Springs for a 10 pack of the +10% mag springs, and they are shipping them to him.

It isn't just the springs. It is also because the military wanted the insides of the mags coated to prevent corrosion. With the extra thickness, plus sand, impeding the follower, you get malfunctions.

could you take a file or sandpaper to the follower to improve the fitment between it and the mag body? Are you asking for trouble doing that?
Hope the springs fix his troubles...nothing would scare me more than pulling the trigger only to have the gun jam when I need it to speak.

The springs are a good place to start. I would send him some civilian BLUED ones. (And there really is no big problem doing that or bringing them back as long as command does not care. I took 12 of my own with me without incident and so did a bunch of our other shooters.) Or send him the new springs and a bunch of green scouring pads and graphite lube to lube the follower with. A lot of our guys did this and it helped a bunch.

The biggest problems with the military issued M9 mags is not the spring. It is the fact that the military uses one cure for all problems. The mags are coated with a heavy parkarization and the followers are not smoothed or polished. So what happens is that the dust and sand gets into the mag and hangs up the follower giving you a mag full of chiclets.

We raised such a big stink over the issue while in country that the Army finally admitted that is was not the best mag for the situation. We compaired them against the blued M9 and M1911A1 magazines that we had with us and showed how reliable they were compaired to the current M9 mag. TACOM took it up the ladder and as of May this year they have decided to redo the mag with a light park, dry film lube in the mag and a polished follower. They are slated to begin replacing them the first of next year and it will be a one for one exchange.

Dont know, dont care. As long as it is retained in US control and the CO doesn't care I dont think anyone else does either. And if someone from Customs or State gets their panties in a wad (like either of them check close enough anyway) leave them there.

I dont think they are come to think of it. We got a bunch of mags from State that were definately not issued. We told them we were bringing them back and they didn't care.

Green scouring pads... heh in the military we called em greenie meanies... dang usefull thos things are =)
