Ive been shooting my one and only rifle, a .22 for awhile now and I'm looking to purchase something else. I'm not really sure where to start. I'm looking for something that's fun to shoot, in the 400$ price range that isn't too expensive to purchase ammo for. I was looking at Ak's and stuff but I really don't know what to go for. I'm open to any suggestions or advice. I think I just want something with a little more power or recoil so it is more exciting to shoot. Simply put, just want to know what direction to go. it would be mostly used for fun shooting, no hunting or serious target shooting. Just something thats real fun to shoot.

.308 Bolt action

Get a Savage (for the trigger) or Rem 700 (for the aftermarket).

Great guns, affordable and fun to shoot/hunt.

You can get a bolt gun like stated above or something like an SKS. There is always the millsurps too. It all just depends on what your looking for.

Where to start....

DPMS and Olympic Arms both make an inexpensive, but quality AR type rifle for around 500 dollars. I'd go for one of those. You can find a decent Yugo AK for around 400 dollars or thereabouts. Be sure to buy PLENTY of mags.

When in doubt, buy one of each!

$400 isn't much of a budget for a semi-auto... at least in a rifle caliber. The Ruger Deerfield 99/44 is fun and can be picked up used for about that price. It handles exactly like a 10/22. The 4 round magazine is annoying but it's still fun to shoot.

In a semi-auto, I'd start with an SKS...Cheap to buy, cheap to feed (even with current ammo shortages/price increases)...Everybody should have at least one! Just don't expect real good accuracy, expecially with the cheapo ammo. My SKSs are pretty accurate (with good ammo) but I don't shoot them much at paper, because of the accuracy factor. Great plinkers though, lots of fun.

If you want accuracy, go witha bolt gun. The Savages are a good deal, but while you might buy the gun for under $400, you'll want to put a decent scope of some kind on it.

Based on your later comments...

SKS is a good way to go if you just want to burn through ammo for fun.

IMO, you can do nearly the same with your gun now.

For $400, get an FAL, just make sure you PM me with where you got a great deal like that . All serious, a Yugo SKS is under $200 last time I checked. Not the most accurate gun in the world, but it will work and they are a more fun than a barrel of monkeys. They are also ok for the whole HD/when the S THF/ zombie ninja squires and all that good stuff.
