Hi Y'all,

My dad gave me a Colt Official Police 38-200.. serial # 11XXX. I'd like to know about how old it is... it's very cool... in great condition. THANK YOU!

We need a bit more information. The OP serials never went that low as they picked up from the Army Special. There were some sent to Britain marked "Official Police .38-200" but AFAIK they did not have their own serial range, so the 11,000 serial is doubly confusing.

Those guns would date to May 1940 through June 1941. They may have been issued to British police or stored in police reserves, though some may have gone to the French resistance.

That serial number isn't in the regular OP list, but those were made in WWII for the British & maybe Canada? (cal is our .38 S&W). Does the revolver by chance have a lanyard?

the 11,000 number is on the bottom of the butt... it's nickle 4" barrel another # inside the revolver part 4 digit

Funnel... it does have a place where something screws into the butt.. my dad said for lanyard ... not sure

Serial number should be on the frame behind the crane & on the crane --will be 6-digits. No idea what the number is on the bottom of the grip frame or the other 4-digit number, but I'm not really familiar with any foreign proof marks or numbers on these. Also, they were never nickel plated. Numrich (www.e-gunparts.com) is the best place for parts.

That 11,000 on the butt is your grandpa's badge number. When my grandpa gave his Official Police 38 to me he said the butt of the gun had his badge number engraved on it...my guess is yours is the same deal.
