I'm looking to slightly lighten my load and send my gov't model into semi-retirement. I'd like to replace it with a CCO-sized pistol. I've seen the Kimber Compact CDP and it looks like just about perfect. I'm balking at the $1000 price, but considering all the custom work, maybe it's not so bad.

I've looked at Springfield and Colt and Les Baer and such, but I can't find a comparable pistol for the price. So...

Those of you with Kimber Compact CDP's - what do you think of 'em?

Have I overlooked a good candidate? Tell me about it. I'm not willing to spend more than a grand. Officer's sized frame with 4" or 4.25" barrel - basically a CCO.

Thanks much, guys!

Kimber 3" and 4"

The Ultra Carry II is a great 3" has a shorter grip I carry one also the Tac Pro II is 4" with full size grip.

I'm still set on the 4" barrel and officer's frame. I went to ye olde gun shoppe again today and checked out the wares. Kimber is the only one that size, outside of one of the high-end custom shops.

Unless anyone here knows different...

Look for a used Springfield Compact. They have the officer length frame and the 4" slide/barrel. Lots of value for the money -- way cheaper than Kimber and just as good IMHO.

There are also Colt CCO's out there on the used market. Sites like www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com may turn up a few. The XS series guns come nicely equipped with beavertails, extended thumb safeties and good sights.

Good Choices!

I haver semi retired my 28 year old Government model(still serves as a housegun) and 15 year old LW Ofiicer's model(still serving another in another role) for a Colt CCO that I found after some dedicated shopping for $499.00 LNIB.
It is a later XS and is super sweet!
I looked at the Kimber Compact, and though the CDP vesion is the prefered choice...because of the 'melt down' and night sights, there are a few Compacts non CDP out there...I saw anice used one for 629 hereabouts.
I prefer the Colt because of the simpler Commander slide arrangement(barrel/bushing/springs, no to FLGR)...but would not complain about a Kimber if it proved itself to be reliable.
The concept works very well and I carry mine On and Off duty.

So you're saying that the Colt XS is CCO-size? That'd be an interesting option. I'd have to have a little work done to it, though, and that'd probably bring the price up to that of the Kimber Compact CDP. More if I had the melt treatment done to it.

I also prefer the standard short guide rod and barrel with bushing, but I guess I'm open to other options considering my price limit.
