I am helping an elderly lady sell off her gun collection and have run into a pistol that normally would not be worth much but have been told that this one might be worth more due to nazi proof marks on the end of the barrel and on the right side of the frame. It is marked 7.65 Court 9 Coups "Unique" on the slide and 9 Schuss 7.65 on the plastic grips. It is in nice shape with one mag and an original holster. Under the nazi proof mark on the frame it looks like the inspector number might be 4020. Anybody know what I might ask for the pistol? Whom might buy such a gun? I have no interest in it and was told by someone that it was made in France during the Nazi occupation etfc. Help if you can Thanks Tim C

You have a 9 Schuss, :) That means 9 Shot, not the model of the gun. Manufacture D'Armes des Pyreness or " a French Unique ". The French Unique Model 17, was in production in 1940 when the Germans dropped in for a 5 year visit. Under German control the production continued on the Model 17 but it was now called the Kriegsmodell. It fires the 7.65 or as it is known in the US the .32 ACP. With the German markings the value in excellent is around 375 to 400, In V.G. 275 to 300, In Fair 150 to 175, In poor condition 125 to 150. However those are the values if sold other than to a gunshop. A gun shop will only offer about 60% of that. ( It might sit on their shelf for a year before they sell it.) That's the short version of the history of the Model 17 , as with all WW II arms several pages could be written but I think that answered your question, Good Luck. Also the hoslter adds value , maybe 50 dollars.

Thanks for the information. Like anything I suspect it will be tough to sell until the right person comes along. Thanks again

A picture identification is sometimes an aid to "knowing the players"; R.D. Whittington III: "German Pistols and Holsters" shows on pg. 136 Unique modell 17 with WaA251 acceptance stamp below serial number [44245] and pg. 139 shows Unique Kriegsmodell with WaAD20 [serial 75578] mark. The Unique's appropriate holster is shown on pg. 209 with dimensions given as height: 182 mm and maximum flap width: 134 mm. Anthony Vanderlinden states in his 2005 publication (Holsters of the World) that - the dimensions of Unique model 17 holster are 5.25"x7.25", the color is dark-brown and the leather is stamped WaAD20. He attributes the identical holster {with the same WaAD20markings} in black as occupation production for the MAB-D. Ciao for Now.
