Well, actualy I don't.
Janet wants one for Christmas and i don't know exactly where to go for one.
I've looked at a few places and 'bout $300 seems to be the goin rate (?)
So far she's got 'er sights on a Kentucky type 'tower' pistol.
But, that could change.
I sure could use some suggestions/insight on the matter.
Don't even let the thots that she a 'girl' with no buildin experience enter yer minds.
She's got Irish/Welsh determination and by golly jist has fun in all she does.
Not to meantion she's got a built in tutor with all the tools she'll need :D
I bilt me one o' them CVA Tower pistols 'bout 35 years ago and it was JUNK.
Has CVA improved at all ?
She wants to build a good shooter. Not a wall hanger.

Oh yean, do these kits ever tend to go on sale 'round Christmas ?

the only thing in that price range is the Traditions Kentucky pistol or the trapper pistol. Shop prices. A few places do really beat others out. The possible shop sometimes beats the others.

The CVA Tower pistol was a POS. it used their cheapest lock. The Kentucky pistol used the better one. The current traditions offerring is just a slightly modified CVA Kentucky pistol. The trapper may be far too heavy for her.

Although it wouldn't be new, reworking an older CVA or Traditions pistol may prove as satisfactory and costs less. I have purchased a couple CVA Kentucky pistols on-line over the past year for around $120. Many old kit guns were given half butt rush jobs when it came to stock finishing.

Yep Jim, I'm thinking of a flinter pistol myself, in the kit form, but this will be for myself. I've got a Kentucky in the percussion which was a kit, and I built that about 30 years ago and it came out pretty good. Reckon I'll have to check with Dixie and TOW.

Thanx Zimm. I wasn't aware o' the P.S.
I really like thier choices and thier prices are indeed better.

I'm aware of the CVA Tower. Bot a kit( my first) 'bout 40 years ago fer $20 ( new)It was indeed JUNK !!! But we had some fun none-the-less.
I'm gonna let Janet look over P.S.'s offerins and see if anything catches her eye.

That is an option Zimm but i klnow she wants 'her own'.

They are indeed fun Noose. Bilt my first one 'bout 40 years ago.
Check this link. It's The Possibles Shop that zimmerstutzen suggested above.
Pretty nice pistolas and decent prices.

Man Zim had it right, didn't he. I'm defitnitely going with the Pedersoli Kentucky in .45. The price is definitely right. The reason I'm going with the .45 is I've shot my Remington 1858's a quite a bit, and I've got all kinds of .44 round balls available, scratch that just checked my moulds, and they are .454. Might have to go with a .54 caliber, as I do have .530 moulds, or break down and get a .430 mould. Any way thanks for the info, either way I'm going with The Possibles Shop. Just rechecked The Possibles Shop, they don't offer a flintlock in .54 only percussion, reckon I'm gonna get a .50 in F/L.

Here in PA a flint pistol for deer must be at least 50 cal. A 45 cal flinter handgun is neither legal for large game or small game in PA. Small game must be 40 cal or below in PA.

You state may have different requirements or may not even allow muzzleloading pistold for hunting.

Well Zim, I don't plan on using it for hunting, I might take a shot at a Jack Rabbit or two, mostly just plinking.(with the pistol) I just finished that .50 flint lock GPR, and I plan on taking that out to UP in Michigan.

Ya know Jim I'm not entirely sure if there is that big a difference, I know I use a .454 ball in my .44 C&B revolvers but I don't use a patch, and I get a little ring of lead out once I press the ball in the cylinder. Now with the pistol (in .45) I would think you'd need to use a patch of at least .015 therefore a .430 ball would suffice.

Hold on a second I'll check, nope the .454 ball will just barely start but won't fall down the barrel, so ya need a bit smaller ball with a patch.

Wow noose. Thanx fer not bangin my head off the wall 'bout this.
After readin the responses i git from some o' the questions i pose in here i feel like... .... :banghead: even.
Used to know all this stuff years ago. Dealt, 'smithed, built customs and KNEW all that gun kind o' stuff. Got real sick spent 'bout 7 years hospitaled and a whole bunch more sick and now that i'm tryin to relearn all this stuff it gits to me when i see that i fergot 'bout somethin as simple as the difference twixt a 'rammed' ball and a patched ball.
Dang, i gotta look pretty danged dumb sometimes :banghead:
But, i'm havin a ball learnin and slowly gittin back into it :D
And, have the great fortune o' findin myself amongst all the gentlemen, and ladies that belong to this website ;)

Not a problem Jim, I've been shooting for over 55 years, started out with a Iver Johnson 20ga single shot, and shot everything from a .22 to a 600 Nitro Express and still I get a bit confused. I could go back 60 years if ya want to talk about my Daisy BB gun. As far as BP goes, I've been shooting that for over 40 years and still am learning from the more astute Lords of the Black.

Aint that the truth? Still learning!

Check out The Gun Works.

They sell Flinters. Joe and Suzi are great people, located in Oregon.

I bought the Trapper percussion pistol but they sell the Flinter. My gun is awesome.
