I am looking for a leather OWB holster for my Springfield micro compact 1911 with built in rail. I have always really liked Galco but I want a retention strap and from what I have read, you cant have a 1911 cocked in a Galco holster with the retention strap.

Today I purchased a belt from beltman, and now would like to get a decent holster. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a difficult combination of features to find a stock holster for, so you may have to have something custom made. If Gelco makes something that will work you might ask them if the could do so, but make the safety strap a bit longer.

If you are going to attach anything to the rail all bets are out the window so far as a stock holster is concerned.

I'm pretty sure Galco designs their retention straps for cocked and locked carry. Could be wrong, though. I've never owned a holster with a retention strap.

FAQ #1 from the Galco website
http://www.usgalco.com/QA.asp
Are Galco Holsters for 1911's Designed to be Carried Cocked and Locked?

All Galco holsters with safety straps and thumb breaks are designed to carry 1911-style pistols with the "hammer down, chamber empty." Galco 1911 fit holsters that are "open top" (no safety strap and no thumbreak)are designed to accommodate 1911's in all safe "conditions" specified by the firearm manufacturer.
It may work for Condition 1 carry, as many have reported they can do it, but if it doesn't, don't blame Galco, they told you up front it wouldn't.

As Old Fuff mentioned, you have an unusual combination.

Are you looking for a duty holster or a concealment holster?

There are very few concealment holsters for light mounted 1911's, or any pistol for that matter, and there are even fewer for 3" models. The light mounted pistol is usually used by military or law enforcement, not the concealed carry user.

A thing to consider with your holster search, is the light will be used by the holster as a retention point, so if you decide to carry your pistol without the light mounted, the holster will most likely not work very well without the light mounted.

A couple makers you may want to try are

Davis Leather Company

Simply Rugged

Pure Kustom makes a leather concealment holster for light equipped pistols, but I don't think they do thumb breaks.

Here is High Noon's story on why they don't do thumb breaks for 1911 pistols.

There are lot's more kydex makers for light mounted pistols if you want some of those companies.

Thank you all for the help.

I am not looking for a duty holster. I am just looking for a OWB concealable holster. I will not have the light attached. I received a reply back from High Noon Holsters and they said to just order a holster for the springfield 3" and it will fit mine, even with the rail on it. Although I wanted the thumb break, I may go with High Noon and forget the thumb break retention strap.

I have not decided fully if this is the route I’m taking or not.

My bad, I misread your question.

There are lots of holster makers for a railed 1911, even if it is a 3".

As far as we know, the 1911 3" with rail casting was never made available. With that said you could take a bigger 1911 with rail and do it. It will not be perfect, but could work.

You would have to call to order.

Alex

I can make you one with the rail in any of my styles with a strap. Obviously we need to discuss what condition you want to carry in so the strap can be correctly fitted.

Just drop me an email to discuss.

Thanks,
Chad
