My S&W Model 12-2 (2") is a lightweight (aluminum-framed, Air Crew?) version. The frame thickness is different than the steel-framed model so the vast majority of cataloged wood grips don't fit. Any of you S&W wheelgun gurus have a line on some quality wood grips made to fit this (semi-rare?) model?

I've got a pair for sale!

Hey,

Like Kamerer said, I listed a pair for sale a few days ago on the S&W forum. I hang out over there mostly. Anyway, they are factory round butt diamond center K frame grips that would have came from a Model 12 or pre-12 airweight. As you mentioned, they will not fit a standard K frame due to the frame thickness and are somewhat scarce. They are in great shape showing a little shelf wear but don't look to have been shot with much. No cracks or chips. They would be factory correct for a gun made in 1968 or earlier. Follow his link to the S&W forum for pics, or let me know if you need me to email you some. Price is $75 shipped.

Thanks,
Chris

Thank You, I appreciate the help guys. Okay, it's an M&P Lightweight (Model 12-2) 2".

I've got good news & bad news, depending on your point-of-view. Bad news - I won't be buying a new set of grips. Good news - I don't need them. I FOUND the originals neatly stored in a Hogue Monogrip box that was apparently installed when my Dad owned the revolver.

I don't think he ever carried or shot it, just kept it holstered in a bedside drawer. Condition is excellent (+90%), no drag-ring around the cylinder, only finish blem is a small nick on the backstrap. Now that I've found the original S&W grips...I have a nice, semi-unique, original S&W snubbie in great shape! I've got plenty of other carry options so this one will likely be tucked away for an eventual gift to my college-attending son.

Thanks Again!

I have a 12-2 also that i bought about 6 months ago. I never have shot it. Does anyone have any idea about what year it was made? The S.N is D6659xx. Thanks in advance.

I don't have my reference book handy (SCSW), but I'd make a semi-educated guess it's like 1975 or 1976. The D numbering started in '68, and the -3 variant came in 77. based on numbers made in past runs, I'd guess that was near the end of the -2 run, close to 77. Just a semi-educated guess.

Dave M,
Mrs. Ghost Tracker (my personal Georgia Peach) is the shutter-bug of the tribe (Sony 10.2 meg Digital SLR). I'll see if I can sweet talk her into a little "studio session" for S&W photos.
