need some Bushnell Scopechief IV 1.5x-4.5x help

I have got a used Bushnell Scopechief IV in 1.5 to 4.5 power. I've been using it on a .22 semiauto rifle with good results, although it's the only scope I've ever used. I like the compact size, and the eye relief fits my way of holding. It has a black crosshairs reticle plus by turning a ring, you can thicken the bottom (6 o'clock-pointing) part of the crosshair to make it look like a post, while retaining the crosshairs.

What I would like to know is are there scopes that are brighter than this? What distance are these adjusted for? Can I adjust this distance myself?

I will be trading in my current semiauto .22 rifle for a new T/C R-55 All Weather .22lr (stainless barrel, black synthetic stock). These used to be called the Silver Lynx, but are getting a new name with internal features similar to the .17 R-55 line.

Anyway, I am not necessarily looking for a new scope, but I just don't know what I have here as compared with contemporary scopes. You know, I'm wondering if the grass is greener over there in the other filed . . .

Bushnell Scopechief IV 1.5-4x help

I have scope same in my hand. From the late sixties.
Adjustments are 1/2"/click at 100yards. If you remove the caps and look you will see.
Most scopes of today are 1/4"/click at 100 yards.
So on this one :at 50 yards you would have to move 2 clicks for 1/2 inch
at 200 yards each click would move you 1 inch per click.
Look on the net for a chart but remember the 1/2 inch at 100yards might be the same as the one I have so double the move figures.

The post moves in or out. + is cross hairs P is post up.
If you find the cross hairs are not both black and sharp to your eye adjust the rear tube .[back off the knurled nut ring a bit].
We have two of these scopes in the family both and they are still great.
In most cases I use mine at 2.5 power and my brother keeps his on 3.
Most times deer and moose hunting yur don't get time to play around.

Nice Scope

I have been refinishing an old Ruger .44 Carbine that my dad gave me many years ago and trying to put it back to the same configuration as it was. It had one of those older bushnell scopes as you describe. it is a vintage scope but not performance exceeding todays lens. Still, if either of you are thinking about selling yours, I'd be interested in buying it from you.
