Hi all, I have a couple of questions...
When I chamber a round it sounds like something rattles around in there. Doesn't happen empty. Still happens when I drop the mag. Is this normal for this old gun? Also, I've been on a fruitless search for a concealable holster for this relic. Anyone have one they would recommend?

I owned a Smith 39-1 many years ago, but can't help with the rattle. Does it do it with all mags or just one? BTW, there are quite a few holsters listed on Gunbroker under S&W 52 that are shown to fit your model 39. Check it out.

Solved

Third party magazine... Two rounds were being stripped at once. One would get chambered and the other would rattle around.

It is quite normal for a 39-2 to have the second round slide about halfway out of the mag under recoil and/or friction from feeding the top round, even with factory mags.

The only soultion I know of was used on the Devil conversion.

Anyway, they drilled the frame right in front of the second round in the magazine, and put in a roll pin with a steel roller on it to stop the second round moving under recoil until it came up to the top position in the mag.

I always thoght it was something S&W should have done in the first place. Or close up the front of the magazine enough the second round couldn't escape.
