Bravo Company is good to go! I have over 1,200 rounds, many steel cased, through mine with 0 issues. You can save a few hundred $$ by buying the lower receiver, parts kit, stock kit, complete BCM upper receiver assembly, charging handle and bolt carrier group seperately and assembling it yourself. You will need a few punches, nylon hammer, flat screwdriver, duct tape, maybe a small vice-grip and a castle nut wrench ($12 delivered from many online sources or get at a gun show)

Assembly directions are available at ar15.com and m4carbine.net which is where you should go to get tons of good AR info and hear about all of the latest deals and cool AR accesories.

+1 on the p-mags from magpul!

Here is a 16" midlength carbine I recently assembled. It uses an Essential Arms lower, Magpul MOE stock and grip, Spikes Tactical ST-T2 buffer, Daniel Defense rear sight, optic mount and LPK. Upper is all Bravo Company. Optic is a T1 from Aimpoint.

Nice thing about the MOE Grip is it accepts many modular containers that can be used to carry all kinds of "possibles" mine is set up to carry 4 extra batteries for the T1 in a secure sealed container.

My most reliable AR15/M16 is the POF SBR upper, then my Colt M4. The POF stays reliable with minimal cleaning and lube. The M4 is good to about 500 rounds with wet lube, then everything starts to gum up. I have over 10k rounds out of the POF and around 7k in the Colt.

I think given similar "build quality", a piston gun will be more reliable than a DI. But if you are talking home use and not a high round count, a quality DI is fine. Also, there is no mil-spec for pistons.
