Neostead.....What happened?

This is such a nice and revolutionary shotgun design, I can't for the life of my figure out what happened.

First of all, why was it changed from two 6 shot tubes to two 5 shot ones? I thought if the gun was a pump it could have as many shells as possible in it?

Second, even with the 10 shot model, where is the neostead? Why isn't it being imported and sold? It's such a great design, I don't understand it. It only cost around $2000 or so, correct? I'm sure even that price would lower a great deal once it started to take off and sell and become popular.

Two mag tubes is such a great concept.... What ever happened to the Neostead?

I agree, neat design. In series production, costs needed to be around $1,200 street price for it to compete with the better established 11/87, 870, and Benneli jobs. Novel it was, innovative it was, but that does not always a successful weapon make. South African guns of late have not hit the US market well. There also might have been some resistance on the part of the US government to classify this weapon properly. Remember, imported weapons must still pass the "Sporting Purposes" test of 1968 Vintage.

Never heard of that, and I should know. A few months ago I was in SA and made some recomandations to modify the NS.

There also might have been some resistance on the part of the US government to classify this weapon properly.

This is correct asfar as I know.

The NS is a fun little gun.
You do the work on the import papers on your side, and I'll get you one.

When I first heard of the Neostead in the late 90's, it initially had two 6 round magazines.

If you don't mind me asking, which modifications did you suggest that they make?

The modifications I asked for:
-Barrel that taked rem- or win chokes.
-Soft recoil redusing but pad.
-Extended "funnel" for the ejected shell, so It won't snag on clothing if shot from hip.
-Grip changed so it can accept AR-15 style grips or Benelli type rubber grips.
-Picatinny rail to mount dot sights.

How about a longer sight radious on the ghost ring sights? 6" isn't much of an aiming alignment.

I would put a red-dot on it for use on longer ranges.
This is more of a CQB gun than a ultra-long-range-1000-yard-sniper-shotgun (TM)

I don't like to be dependant on batteries.

I like being able to shoot slugs out to 100 yards with great accuracy.

Found a supplier in Italy, about $2k with leather case and carry sling and regular spped shipping (not incl. customs / duty etc)

Now the question is, does anyone know what the status of the NS2000 is with respect to importing it?
