So I bought a new 1911 slide so I replaced the old one now with the new one on it will not go into battery will replacing the Barrel Link fix this problem

It could be if parts came loose some springs and pins. Also, the barrel link needs to be down to line up the slide stop. Check and see if the firing pin stop plate might have accidentally pushed the firing pin plunger lever up. This could keep the slide from moving back. If it is up just push it down.

The slide stop is all the the way in the barrel link and once I release the slide forward it just stops right before the slide lines up with the safety notch

Yea multiple times sucks I can’t figure it out this my first 1911 so still learning a lot about this gun..I was told from the company I bought the slide from that I might need a smaller barrel link .. so just want to ask if there was another solution before I start spending more money on parts

Nearly zero parts drop fit on a 1911--just a thing that is.
@ms6852 hit this on the head.
Take all the parts off. start with just slide and frame.
Then, move up to slide, barrel, and frame.
Then, try slide, barrel, link and frame.
Note do the above w/o recoil spring installed.

There may be an issue if the frame is "series 80" (with firing pin safety) and the slide is "series 70" (w/o safety).

Jinking around with recoil links is not an easy task, nor one to take on lightly.

Everything seems to line up it’s just when I pull back on slide to line up to put slide stop pin in is when it misaligned....The slide is series 80 the frame a 70 so that shouldn’t be a issue..but I definitely will start from scratch

For the OP, the 1911 is not a Glock. Just because somebody sells a part for a 1911, doesn't mean it's going to fit without some filing/grinding/welding.

I'd either put the old slide back on or take it to a gunsmith who knows their way around a 1911.

It's also possible there is some interference with grip/rail attachment you have on the gun. You may want to take that off and see if the interference goes away.

Sounds like you may need a shorter link. Like CapnMac said, you can't just swap parts around on a 1911 and expect them to drop into place and work. When I worked for Les I remember the barrel lock up man had a tray with four or five different lengths of barrel links. They were numbered 1 through 5 and I believe the largest numbers were the longest links. "Length" is the distance between the centers of the large and small holes.

Barrel lock up and final assembly were the two jobs I never did, so I can't be of much help. Take it to a smith

Besides what has already been mentioned, the locking lugs on the barrel may need to be fitted to the slide.

Get yourself a copy of "The M1911 Complete Owner's Guide" by Walt Kuleck. Interesting reading and will provide a wealth of information on working on the 1911.
