A Browning BAR in 30-06 has just come my way. Looks almost new, is scoped and has two detachable mags. Nice looking gun.

I would appreciate anybody who has experience with them to offer an opinion. Accuracy, durability, etc. Can they be taken down to clean them or do you just clean the barrel and then clean the action from outside? Do the rifles have any quirks or special ammo requirements as to heavy/light loads, heavy/light bullets, etc.

Thanks for any input (as I have zero experience with these particular guns).

Best semi auto hunting rifle made, period. had one a few years back and noticed no quirks at all, was fairly accurate, wouldn't shoot with a bolt action but definately good enough to bring down game. never had mine jam in 3 seasons hunting with it and did no special cleaning just the barrel. Sprayed some dry lubricant on the acion every so often is all. Let me know if you get it, I have a magazine you can have if you pay shipping.

No heavy or light loads please, they are made for standard pressure and standard pressure curves. I've got one in .270 and one in -06, both have been completely reliable over the past 5-6 years. The -06 likes heavy 180 gr. loads best, while the .270 seems happy with medium wieght 140 gr. loads. All I can suggest is try a couple of different weights to see what works best for that particular rifle.

The only cleaning I've done to mine is remove the forearm for cleaning and lubing, I spray out the action pretty good once a year and oil everything I can reach using a q-tip.
