A friend stopped by recently to pick some veggies and used a knife that caught my attention.
He had a vintage Opinel with about a 4 inch blade.
I offered to sharpen it and using the "stones" got a scary edge on the knife easily.
I just had to have one.
I placed an order for two with SMKW and had them within a few days.
Not a bad knife at all and the price for the carbon steel models was less than 8 bucks.
They carry easily in a web flashlight holder and the Spyderco Sharpmaker does them justice.

Several of us here have been vocal fans of the humble Opinel for a long time. If you have any carving skills they make great knives to customize.

Zeke,

These knives are proven, and just keep on proving.
Sorta like a Case Sodbuster with lock ring , and a Old Hickory that folds. *smile*

As you noticed, and for the benefit of folks not familiar, they do make some that do not lock, and they have some with stainless blades.

I always forget the number to size designation, still one that pockets like a Sodbuster Jr, in carbon with lock, and one just a tad smaller, are the ones I like for general.

These are great for gifts, field kits, tossing in places for backup, having spares for folks, and the like.
