20-50 full syn motorcycle oil.

I place lube at top of ram cylinder then run the ram back and forth though it.

About every 500-700 rounds, wipe the ram clean add a few drops of oil. Is always smooth and never dry

+1 Dillon

I think bear grease would work fine, but I use 30 wt because that's what Dillon recommends. I have most of the POL products known to common man (or had in the past), and use some on all kinds of different things, and my take after 50 years is that if you use something, you're probably o.k., but nothing will torpedo you. I use the expensive grease Mercury Marine recommends on my steering controls, though moly would probably work, because I spent a crap-load of $$ on that monster and it ain't gonna break because I know better than Mercury, or because I'm to cheap to spend $10 on grease for a $10,000 motor.

And finally, I have never had a problem with Dillon customer service (the current overload situation notwithstanding), and all I have ever gotten is complete and total satisfaction to the point of being embarrassed to accept free parts sent "just in case." Some are as good (RCBS comes to mind), some are not so good, but I haven't encountered any better. If your press breaks or becomes inoperable because of the problem, rest assured Dillon will make it good.

My 2 cents...

In my 650 manual, at the end of the Troubleshooting Section, they have a couple of paragraphs about maintenance and lubrication. Not sure if the 550 manual does or not.

Ditto on the Dillon service barring the current crunch. They are super nice folks over there and they will take the time to talk to you about any problems you are having.

There is also the Dillon forum where you don't have to sit on hold. Post your question, check it in a day or two and you should have an answer from Dillon.
