Well, my new grips finally came in for the stainless Mustang. I bought them off of gunbroker, and they came from Tiawan. I think it makes them look like traditional 1911's:D. The grips on the Pocketlite I got form the local show last weekend. There's not alot to choose from, but it was worth the wait. Here are a few pics.

Seems like there's no shortage of non checkered wood grips of many woods, but no one wants to checker them. Some grip makers even blurb that the checkering destroys the beauty of the wood, implying that checkered grips shouldn't even be an option for a discriminating buyer. To me smooth grips look weird, and worse, feel weird.

I'm with you; there's just something about checkered wood grips, especially on a 1911 that just set it off right. My favorites are the double diamond style, like the ones that used to be found on the original 1911.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I like the checkered too, but I found the smooth ones at a show for only 15.00, so I had to try them. They feel great too, but I prefer the checkered. Plus I really like the color of the smooth ones.
