Senators Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine have introduced a companion bill in the Senate to Carolyn McCarthy's drastic HR 2038 bill.

http://www.jointogether.org/gv/news/alerts/reader/0,2061,565712,00.html

Here are a few highlights of what S. 1431 (http://thomas.loc.gov/) seeks to accomplish:

1) Bans practically all semi-auto shotguns and practically any semi-auto rifle with a detachable magazine.

2) Ends import of pre-1994 magazines

3) Requires Attorney General to certify that a magazine was made prior to 1994 before it can be legally transferred.

4) Magazines and prohibited weapons that are grandfathered can only be transferred by certain FFLs and law enforcement. No more private sales of these weapons

5) Bans the following :`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'

Wow. That last provision can be used to ban ANY semiautomatic bar none. These people are genuinely sick.:cuss:

So when this unconstitutional nonsense passes the Congress, and G. W. “I don’t think the assault-weapons ban goes far enough†Bush signs it into law (“Hey, you can still have your over-and-under fowling piece!â€), then what?

Worst-case scenario? Maybe …

I just pick up a single shot rifle. This slippery slope will see the end of this rifle in the not too distant future. :banghead:

What really ticks me off is I could always use more semi auto weapons, big ones, little ones, black synthetic ones and wood ones. This bill will see the end of all of them.

I don't think it has an ice cube's chance in hell but the fact that it is even offered makes me wonder when it will not be so outrageous and may pass. Just ask the people of England where their rights went, odds are no one even knows they used to have any.

The Democrats simply don't learn, do they.

Their hard-core anti approach helped lose them the Presidency, the House, and the Senate, and they still haven't learned.

All I can say is I really hope that they don't ever learn, and that they keep coming up with even more ludicrous crap that makes the public realize just how far out on the lunatic fringe these :cuss:holes really are.

...a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event...
So something isn't deemed suitable just because it is actually is suitable . . . this bit of Orwellian doublespeak is brought to you by the party that made "What Is Is?" famous. :barf:

Every semi auto this year and all those evil single shot and bolt sniper rifles next year, and of course all handguns will be banned.

Then of course protection from search and seizure will have to be invalidated and then free speech for all of the commoners will go next.
Its a collective right of Newspapers and the media you know.

The government is the people so when you see the right of the people it really means the collective right of the people as allowed through the government. :fire: :cuss: :banghead: :fire:

Seeing this unconstitutional outrage even introduced makes my blood boil, but boys and girls, I'm sure you know there's no way in hell this would ever pass. If it did, I would reckon about 2/3 of Congress would be looking for work at the end of 04.

I think this extreme legislation was introduced so that the Marxist Party can set up the GOP to accept simply reauthorizing the current AW ban.

The GOP doesn't have a good record on standing up to these statist pigs, so I am afraid they may cave.

What would happen if....?

What do you honestly think would happen in the USA (the response of the people) if there ever came to be a gun ban here ?

If they are STUPID enough to Consider, let alone *shudder* pass such a insane law it will hit the fan so bad that I hate to imagine what my happen.

If this goes through I can honestly see something like what shooterx10 posted about earlyer resulting from it.

I wish there was something I could do to contribute to fighting it, but being stuck in the UK just now there isn't anything I can think of that I can do.

Oh and aren't I just so proud to see that both Senators who introduced the bill are from my home state. Can I put myself up for adoption and get out of here? I certainly hope this bill, and any like it never see the light of day.

… I’m sure you know there’s no way in hell this would ever pass. If it did, I would reckon about 2/3 of Congress would be looking for work at the end of 04.

Maybe so, but they’ll be back in another 10 years. Then they’ll get the handguns or the “sniper†rifles. Anoter 10 years after that, they’ll outlaw some other type of firearm. And so on.

All the while, gun owners will, by and large, do nothing. Why bother? Their guns are grandfathered, so they won’t really lose anything. New shooters at the range will look askance at the old-timers with their anachronistic semi-automatic “assault†rifles, sneaky handguns, unsporting “sniper†rifles, and destructive pump-action shotguns, while loading up their own politically correct single-shot target rifles and small-bore shotguns. Oh, these young folks will grouse when metallic bullets are banned in favor of rubber ones, but it’s for the children …

This may be an attempt to get passage of a "milder" AW ban, as Partisan Ranger suggested. Or it could be a red herring, a bill that traditionally anti-gun legislators can vote against and brag to the gunowners in their districts about doing so.
