New gun...old date

I bought a "new" Ruger Vaquero recently and I love it. My question is regarding the date of testing. I bought this piece new and it does appear to be new. The date on the shell casing used for testing is 12/02. That is over 3 years ago. Is this common or should I worry whether this gun has been pre-owned?

It's not unusual for guns to sit on shelves for that long.
