KR has a slate of Federal and State bills on the agenda for 2015 to protect or restore 2A rights for knife owners/users and stop the persecution of those of us that carry more than a nail clipper. KR provides explanations of the legislation and links to focus on the politicians capable of deciding whether our rights will be protected or not.

For those of us that live in one jurisdiction, work in another, shop in yet another, or travel to friends, family, businesses across the state preemption puts a single state rule in place across the state instead of being subject to a crazy quilt of different rules on blade length, opening mechanism, blade type, etc. Preemption laws ensure that what's legal at home is the same regardless of where you are in your state. Pretty important if you're not a shut-in.

Awesome. Writing my SC rep now. The town I live in restricts folding knife blades to no longer than 3".

Ironically its my understanding that this was originally done as a favor - state law USED to limit blade length carried to 2" but a town could allow more. My town passed a law putting the limit at 3" within the borders but then the 2" state law was repealed and we now have the leftover and now more restrictive town ordinance in place :S.

Those got cleaned up in GA with a big bill last year. In GA, most of those laws related to preventing blacks from having weapons so it was an easy sell.

All of the success over the past 5 years has been hard won even though they were in typically "red" states. It took KR's lobiest time, effort and money spent to find and work with sponsors in the state legislatures to craft the bills and shepherd them through the political process. None of them were sure things.
