Well, too much light on this photo. I'm not much into artificial aging, but, I was kind of thinking that my blued cylinder wasn't really making a good contrast with the naturally aged barrel, so...

I gave the 1860 some love yesterday, as the R&S has been getting all the attention. I did sort out that the 200 grain LEE slug over 27 grains of 4fg is more accurate than a round-ball load. I've always suspected that, but did some shooting and established it is true. In the past, I've always thought this was a pretty accurate gun, but most of my shooting was at 15 yards, casual shooting at "combat distance". Shooting at 25 yards, she's not that great, but good enough. With the ball I can keep them on the paper plate, with the slug I can get an actual group, a little on the large size, but still a group. !

Anyhow, when I had the cylinder off and the cones out, I said: "what the heck" and dunked it in the vinegar for a while. Then I diluted some cold blue, as the cylinder came out pretty bright, and tried to get more of a match with the barrel, but it just does not want to take the blue. Different steel than the barrel for sure. But I did get it toned-down a bit, and it think it will age in time, with some shooting and rubbing dirty patches on it when I clean it.

I like the look better, the loading lever and frame still have nice color case hardening on them, (if that's what it actually is) and I don't want to take that off. I think they contrast nicely with the barrel and cylinder.

The 1860 says: "what say you?" And: "thanks for listening!"

Thanks, but she's kind of an Ugly gun. In more ways than one! But she's pretty on the inside, after Jack had his way with her.
