I got a new S&W model 617 with 4 inch barrel last Thursday. It warmed up to 43 or so on Saturday so I went out in the slush and mud to try her out. The first target is the first 9 shots ever fired out of the gun. Number 10 went into a tin can. Both targets were shot standing with a 2 handed grip in double action with no rest at 25 feet. Target 1 is an 8 inch shoot n see, target 2 is a 6 inch shoot n see. The diameter of the circle inside the red line is 3.25 inches and the diameter inside the 8 ring on the smaller target is about the same size. The trigger is a bit gritty feeling so I am going to hose out the innards with gun scrubber and then lightly lube. Some snap caps and a few hundred dry fires will likely help too. congratulations on a fine choice. you are going to really like that revolver. use it in good health as we used to say. it will smooth out with time and use.

IMG_2931.JPG I have a 4" 617 that is my favorite 22 revolver and is always on my side when in the woods or fishing. The 617 has a perfect fit in my hand and is very accurate. Have fun trying to wear it out.

Congrats on a fine gun. A 4" 10-shot 617 was my first revolver purchase, and it's been one of my most-shot guns. Looking back, then, I consider it one of my wiser firearm purchases. With it's preferred ammo, the gun itself ought to shoot inside an inch at 25 yards.
