I have a 18.5" 6rnd Mossberg 500A Persuader that is an early 90's model, and I also have a new 20" 8rnd Mossberg 500A Cruiser just bought about 5 months ago. The first thing I had noticed about my old model is the top is not drilled and tapped, Then I noticed that the older model is alot more noisy and there is more metal on metal sounds. I think my old 500 was less noisy when first puchased? Someone at the local Sportsmans Warehouse had said that Mossberg made the new Shotguns more stealth and more tactical? Is this true?

Sounds weird. Mine isn't too noisy, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

Thats gonna suck for everyone here who thinks the sound of a 12 gauge racking will scare away all the criminals. :neener:

I wouldn't want my shotgun to be quieter when I rack it, That sound alone sends the bad guys running. Less paperwork, clean-up & so on. If you want to be stealthy with a shotgun lock and load before you get there.

Generally the sound of a 12ga racking in a dark room only serves to give the intruder a bead on where you are. If you do rack the bolt that sound needs to be followed immediately by a loud bang. Of course, only if you have been able to identify the target and make sure it isn't JR back late from a date or FIDO!

Its not quiet when being pumped, its just quiet while being carried or holding the pump.

That's a good quiet then, definitely a wanted feature when you want surprise on your side. I forget the term used but I would call it the jump and wiggle test, :D If nothing makes noise your good to go.

i have 2 newer models and one older models, the newer ones were bought brand new and are a little bit quieter but as they have been used (3000 rounds + countless practice dry fires for the oldest of the new ones, if that makes sense) the sound of the action has become more metallic due to the finish being warn off of the moving parts
