I have been looking for a 44 Mag Revolver for awhile. I have needed a good 44 Mag Revolver to pair with my little Rossi M92. I fell into a pretty good this deal this week and pulled the trigger (pun intended :D).

I got a M29 Classic. All my other N-frames are 6XX and I like the full under-lug barrel and really like round-butt frames of the 6XX series so a M29 was not really on my radar as most M29s are partial under-lug and/or square butt frames. But I stubble across a deal on a 6.5-inch M29 with a full under-lug and round butt frame. It's a 29-5 so it has no internal hammer lock. The firing pin is on the hammer and if my research is right it has the endurance package on it also. It also has the slip-in front sight which another nicety.

It does not appear to have been shot much given how little wear on the cylinder stop notches and recoil shield. There is very little burning on the front of the cylinder also. I am guessing it has probably only had a few boxes fired through it. Its not perfect, there is a few wear marks here and there and it appears to have been drop mildly on a rough surface on the left side there is a very small ding/scratch on the left side of the barrel and a couple spots on one side of the cylinder. But its very much going to be a working gun for me so I don't mind given the deal.

Now to order a round butt Hogue grip, square butts just ain't right. I would like to put a California Competition Work cylinder release on it but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Not sure what happened to them?

I have a good belt holster and a chest holster it will fit in but I need to find some serviceable speed-loaders. Safariland does not make Comp IIIs for the 29, only the little Comp Is. Anyone have some suggestions for speed-loaders? I like push to release better than twist to release.

The whole collection:

Nice! I have the 629 Classic Power Port model. As nice a .44 Magnum to shoot as I have ever found.

Congrats on a pretty N frame you added to that collection

Oh, the HKS model 29-M speedloaders work perfectly.

No doubt, I have one for my model 10. But the Comp IIIs are IMO easier to use and faster. I have five of those I use for IDPA. I am going to try some Comp Is. But since I bought it to go with my Rossi M92 part of me thinks I should just get some shell loops to feed both. Sort of John Wayne with Dirty Harry influences.

Glad somebody likes full underlugs. I generally can only tolerate them on rare occasions.

I like either a full underlug or no underlug. The partial underlug of say a mountain gun is sort of ugly IMHO.

Nice addition to the full underlug family! If it's going to be a working gun maybe consider getting it hard chrome plated. I have had several guns plated by Metalife and they show no wear after many years of field use and the finish looks just like stainless. Would go great with your other revolvers.

I will also say the standard 4-inch 29-629 barrel profile is, IMHO, a LOT sweeter looking than the Mountain Gun profile.

I even like it more than the full lug profile on these bigger guns. I have a 629 MG and a 629 classic 6.5" with the full lug so they're easy to compare side by side. (I had a 5" 629 full lug as well, but I hadda sell it to pay a bill :uhoh:.)

Now on the L-frames and K frame Smiths I really do like the full lug profile... especially blued!

I can't for the life of me figure out what it is about the N frame full lug I don't like as much :( but the MG? It's just a bit too scrawny for the .44!

The new M29 got a day out in the woods today. Started with a shooting session to try it out, sight it in, and chrono a bunch of different loads I had loaded for my M92. Put a bit over 50 rounds though it and a few through the M92 over the chrono. Blue-Dot and H110 really do like the longer barrel. Titegroup had amazing consistent velocities in both pistol and rifle. Then it road around on my hip the rest of the day while we checked feeders, game cameras and worked on some old deer stand.
