never never land...never land here!
Picked up the 592M a few weeks back, and had not had time to post any pictures...for those of you that requested...here you go.

No range time yet...it is very busy this time of year at the shop, with deer season opening we get a lot of last minute fixes, whoops and so on.

Check out the original parts list that's part of the owners manual...see the 'outer magazine tube'...$1.10 ! Today that same part will run you around $30 or better!

There is a close shot of the 592's fancy extractor.

When I finally get to shoot this thing, I'll post some targets.

Pardon the photography..no skills and equipment available that day! lol

Enjoy-

You allways dog out your phototaking abilities; yet you do some of the best work here- especially in your background coloration/seperation/contrast.
Really , great work. And the wood on that thing; i still cannot believe it is not black walnut. Was that the scope that actually came with the rifle, or is that one of yours? And it looks like the 5 mag cap has been unrecessed a bit, am i wrong? Man, I just love that rifle... hope it is a shooter- love everything about the 5 mag, best rimfire round ever made...
I would gladly use it as my all around varmint rifle, for everything up to coyote size, within 250 yds.

great rifles mike. that is a true collector, and with the ammo that aguilla is making (or was as of last year) it will be a super fun plinker/varmint blaster.

(but dont shoot coyotes at 250yds with it unless your into torturing coyotes to death)

Thanx ranger, the picture taking has been a lot better, it is a hobby of mine and I know all the stuff I did wrong! hehehehe But at least you can tell what is in the picture.

I looked at the cap, it doesn't look as though it was inlet, just a good fit.

I know what you mean with the wood, when I opened the box, it was like WOW...:what: maybe this thing IS walnut...but when you take the action out of the stock, the truth shine through! lol Nice stain job...aint it !?!

The scope is one of those Intensity discontinues that we got from some distributor for a really good price. We bought the 2.8-10X44 fixed parallax and the 3.8-12X44 adjustable objective models, all with aspherical lenses...that particular one is one of the 2.8-10X44's setting in a pair of all steel Leupold tip offs.

Did you notice I had to remove the barrel shroud and rear sight to allow the objective to clear? No problem, I doubt any of those coyotes will see it and laugh...and if they do, well...it'll be the last thing they laugh about! hehehe :D

I'll get it to the range after the hunting season rush slows down...I'll post some targets and a short story of the days events.

As for busting coyotes at 250y....I think as much of yotes as I do a pussy, festering warble on the back of a rattlesnake...and I hate snakes!
So, more than likely...If I can see that baby stealing, chicken thieving, squirrel eating turd, I'm sending one of those 30 grainers his way...no matter what the range! hehehe :D

Thanks for all the positive comments! :)

Mike,
Good pictures of a fine rifle.

All of these rifles have nice wood, altho there has been some debate as to the types fo wood used. Some say theirs is Walnut, some say Birch, but both of mine (the only ones I have handled) are definitely Mahogany. (Mine has been stripped & clear finished. See pics below)

Your picture of the extractor is actually the secondary extractor.
The primary extractor is the little sliding thing that extends into the chamber on the left side allowing for a fully enclosed case head & no extractor cut in the barrel face to handle 33,000 psi chamber pressure. As the bolt is lifted, the primary pulls the spent cartridge from the chamber far enough for the secondary to catch the rim as the bolt is pulled back. Sometimes bolt lift on a spent round can be a little stiff.
When you get a chance to shoot yours, look at a spent cartridge & you will see a horseshoe shaped impression on the case from the pressure forcing the brass into the area of the primary extractor. Just keep it clean like you would a centerfire, NOT a .22.

Hud, thank you for the information, I had read about the extractor(s) but have not investigated them at all! My goodness 33k psi...you'd think we were touching off 220 Swifts or something. lol

I had called Remington to get the poop on this particular rifle I had purchased, and while talking with them discussed the possibility that I may have gotten a walnut stock...no was the answer, and she went on to say that the history book she had listed the stocks made from birch, ash and two other woods that weren't listed for a total of 4 different kind of wood.

Maybe one of those 'other' woods were mahogany...the stock on yours is definitely mahogany, or so it appears in the pictures, which, by the way are excellent.

I can't wait to shoot this thing...I have been a fan of the 5mm for so long, I can't remember when! oohh- baby...whistlepigs beware!

BTW...I found a guy that has any part you may want for the Remington 5mm's, I am making up a 'survival' kit, if you will, for the rifle...what would you fine gentlemen suggest I put in this 'kit'...?

The guy with the goods says the obvious...small easily lost screws for the rear sight, secondary extractor, primary extractor, action screw, sear.

Now, I know better... but will get some of that stuff...everybody has their opinion, right!?!

I have a call in to Wolf springs who say that they can definitely match the sear spring but with less poundage, to lighten the trigger pull... and the parts guy says it can be done to a point without sacrificing safety and reliability.

Thanks for the info.

The trigger on mine could stand a little lightening up as well.
I have read that the adjustable triggers on some of the 541's will work on the 590 series (unsubstantiated). I might have to keep my eyes peeled for one.

The triggers in these cannons are butt simple at best, I had to pay some TLC to mine, I guess that setting in a safe for 31 years caused the aluminum trigger housing to oxidize on the outside were a anti rust coating Remington used back in the day had been applied.

A call to Remington and wading through several 'young' cust. serv. guys till I found a old timer that knew about the aluminum housing problem solved the problem...to a point.

They(Remington) said to just leave well enough alone IF the inside of the trigger housing measured to X dimensions...mine measured to the exact dimensions he gave, so no replacement was needed, but I had to clean off the housing...I'll post a pic. of that mess.

Anyway, the trigger, housing and everything else is 100%... the sear catch still had the dull finish to it!

Check out the housing before the acid dip and polishing.

We have an acid that will remove the oxidation and not touch the base metal, believe it or not we see this from time to time, but mostly on shotgun trigger units that see a lot of moisture.

I'll let you know concerning the trigger springs. What poundage is your trigger.

wow!!! I gotta say, that not only looks like a trigger pac for a 541, but a 788 as well!!!! I wonder how close they are, and if they are like a 541 or 788, then Timney should have a match for it. Yeah, i saw the pressure on this round was 33 k as well, pretty amazing really...
I mean, heck, if you look at the rifle, it looks almost exactly like a 788, right down to the rear bolt shroud, and front and rear sights.

I think they are BOTH sweethearts.....glad ranger spotted her! hehehe

Hud...I'm not for certain, but there might be a 788 trigger at the shop, if there is, I'll see if it works, or can be easily modified to work.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I find out something!
