New Remington HD ammo

It is basically the Golden Saber with a new marketing angle. It is a more of a "brand" issue than a change in the bullet. The line is eventually supposed to have shotgun and rifle rounds as well. It is existing technology all grouped under one brand.

It drives up sales because people can say, "I want a box of Remington Ultimate Home Defense .45 and 12gauge." They don't have to keep up with names like Golden Saber, Premier A Frame, and Express.

Anyone know anything about them?

They look just like Golden Sabers, but with a new name and a higher price tag. Buy the Golden Sabers instead. They may not be around much longer, and you can find some good prices on line right now.

What's happening to Remington is a crime.

I will take Winchester Model 12 and Rottweil SG shot over any HD stuff companies choose to market. American companies do repackaging 101 a lot. Another underhanded and dishonest practice is to increase size of box and put less product in it. Just look at ammo companies packaging rounds into 20 or 25 packs which makes them seem a lot more affordable then they actually are.

Skoro what is happening to Remington?

Corporate predation. The conglomerate (Cerberus) that bought Remington is not interested in the company's long-term viability. They're taking quality-lowering shortcuts to maximize short term profits. Typical of so much of the corporate landscape these days.

If you do a search, you'll find lots of info on Remington quality issues that have surfaced recently.

Thanks for the information Skoro and Apoc. I use Golden Sabers now and might make a switch after further research. Thanks again guys.

I've used Golden Sabers for years and consider it good ammo. The "new" HD line, is just an overpriced marketing gimmick. When I run out of GS, there are lots of good options out there. I don't consider the "new" HD line to be one of them.

Remington has been an American bedrock tradition for over a century and a half. It's sad to see it gutted by greedy executives from a "parent" corporation. But, it's a microcosm of what's wrong with our economy.

I agree with you Skoro...its a darn shame that Rem is turning into just one more company being exploited by avarice. I too use the GS and feel well protected, though its nice to hear others' opinions. Personally I think most modern HP ammo will do the trick at or around 124gr or heavier. I buy whats a good deal and available and typically don't sweat it.
