Has anyone checked out or bought one of the new savages rifle 22 and 410 combo gun yet? It looks like an awesome squirrel and wabbit gun!

Looked at one at cabelas a couple of days ago and seemed nice but didn't have the $429 they wanted for it. Might consider it for my son down the road.

Yeah its a bit spendy for what it is. My son is only 2 week's old but ive already been thinking of what ill give/get him for a first rifle and the 22/410 seems like a decent idea.

Here in WV we call over and unders meat guns lol. I love my dads 222 20gauge.

Sent from my MiPhone !

My first Savage was a model # 22/410--fun gun & small game hunter.
It was lost by my dear brother--him & Old Granddad in the woods together.
That cost him his Marlin 39A which he had to give to me.
My next Savage was model 24V( same as 22/410 with a few changes)
I don't know if they are still available ??

Wow thats a nice looking o/u, they don't make the 24 anymore from what i understand. Just the 42 whuch is the new version that is only available in synthetic. Its a little too spendy for a plastic stocked gun

I really like those, but wish they ran about $100 buck less. I would buy one at that price right now. At 400 plus, I need to think about it first; that usually kills it for me.

I have always wanted one though....

Good lord, it is ugly...I have two Model 24s in my family and love them...I wouldn't touch that thing

The BIG question is, will it shoot BOTH bbls to the sights at the same time, OR will it be like 99.9% of the 24's and you have to aim over here to hit over there with one of the bbls.??

I hope they got that part RIGHT this time!

My grandfather had one of those 22/410 24s. I always thought it was a cool gun. Bit on the spendy side now but I still have a fondness for them.

I welcomed the return of the Savage combo gun when I first heard of it, but I've decided that the implementation has left something to be desired, at least for my tastes.
  1. To pricey. Maybe as built up demand is fulfilled the street prices will go down, but the only places I have actually seen them in stock were selling them for near MSRP. Get the street price down below $350 and maybe we'll talk.
  2. Wrong shotgun. I'm not a fan of the .410 shotgun. The old Model 24 was also available in 20 guage, which I would find much preferable.
  3. Too ugly. No one can really claim the old Model 24 was a great beauty, but the new gun is downright ugly.
  4. Not breakdown. Although only one version of the old Model 24 was a breakdown (the 24C), such a feature on the new gun would have gone a long way to overcoming its other weakensses.
I could live with any one of these percieved flaws, but taken together I'd rather spend the money on a used Model 24. :(

Yup, both of my model 24s are in 20 guage....I have a .410 insert for one of them though. Not a fan of the .410 at all.

I am not sure I understand the ugly comments. If you were hanging this long gun on the wall to be appreciated as a work of art, then the point is well made. However, a long gun is a tool, and it seems to me it was designed to be a light and effective tool. In that regard--purpose driven design--it is quite beautiful.

Naaaa, the lines on a well built rifle make it a work of art. The new Savage combos are butt ugly. Look and you will probably find one of the older 24's for around the same price. I have two and love them both. Guns are made of blue steel and walnut. (or in limited cases, a comparible hardwood)

If the appearance where the only problem, I probably would not let it bother me. Its just one more in a list of problems I have with the gun that add up to a failure in my eyes.

excerpt is out of context

A car is a tool...but I wouldn't buy a Nissan Cube because it is ugly as sin.

I was making an observation--not directed at anyone in particular--about how the design could be construed as nice beyond its superficial aesthetic value. That you would choose to take me completely out of context to advance your argument is less than admirable.
