I took a new shooter out to the range on Saturday. He's shot rifles and shotguns, but not pistols very much.

We started on .22 with a good safety talk. I had along a Ruger Mk II, CZ75BD/Kadet, Ciener top on a SA Black Stainless and a Ruger Single Six. We went through most of a brick with him shooting most of the rounds.

Moved to .380. Bersa Thunder and Beretta 84. Shot about 100 rounds. I ran a couple mags in each since I carry these in warmer weather. Reminded why they are not my favorite range guns. Ouch!

Moved to 9mm. CZ75 with the 9mm slide, CZP-01, BHP, S&W952-2 and Les Baer 9mm PII. He couldn't decide whether he liked the S&W or the Baer better. Tough call but good taste. The Baer is settling in nicely. New fiber optic front sight and slim Esmeralda 1/2 checkered grips.

Finished up with some .45. Baer PII and Ed Brown Exec Target. He liked the bigger holes and we were shooting light target reloads so he had no problems with recoil.

Had a great time. He had a consistent pull to the left. I'm not a great teacher. We tried some different grip ideas, trigger finger adjustments and stance. He got better right at the end shooting the Baers and Brown. Maybe he needs a nice 1911 trigger.
