230 gr ball ammo is what it is meant to shoot. I'd start there. Seems wrong not to.

I also shoot a lot of 230gr ball ammo, also known a Full Metal Jacket or FMJ.

All of the makers are pretty good. If all options were available on the shelf, I'd probably go for the Speer Lawman, Federal American Eagle, or Black Hills offerings first, but I've also used just about everything else with no problems.

Mine ate everything equally well. The XO is one of the best 1911's on the market. You made a great choice!

Pick a lead 200 Gr SWC, load it up with 5.0 Grs W-231, and go shoot some targets.

For a light plinker get some Berrys 185 Gr HBRN, use a charge of fast powder, and go have fun.

Or buy some X-Treme 200 Gr RN bullets, charge em up with some WST or N310, and go play.

So many possibilities. Congrats on a fine gun.

I'm with walkalong on this one. My go to range fodder is cast 200gr SWC behind HP-38. It is accurate, cycles beautifully and piles up my brass in a nice 5' circle. My dad loaded up several hundred for me before he passed unexpectedly. I think it's time to cast some more.

My reloading for the .45ACP for the past 30+ years has been very simple -- 6.0gr Unique, any bullet (185gr-230gr), any large pistol primer (non-magnum). The 200gr hard cast lead SWC is hard to beat for shooting paper targets because of the nice full diameter holes it punches. For steel plates, whatever I can get cheapest is what I use, as quantity has a quality of its very own when shooting high volumes in a short time :)
