Heard through the rumor mill that a new sporting goods store was opening in my neighborhood. Did a little looksie on The High Road, and things looked promising indeed. Having nothing better to do with my Sunday, I swung into the parking lot to see when the new store was going to open. Low and behold, it had already been open 2 days!
I was unprepared for it to be this large inside, having never been in one before. My wife started looking at clothes, while I of course, headed over towards the firearm section. A nice, big firearm section, probably about 100 feet long. Like other folks have said about these stores, I was unimpressed with their method of displaying pistols, just stored on pegs, rubbing against one another.
I was on the lookout for poor gun handling, but for the most part everyone seemed safe, and I didn't see too many guns being handed out, and then the salesman walking away. Then again, since this was opening weekend, there were about 8 or 9 guys working the gun counter.
While I was looking at pistols, I saw they were very big on Glocks, SA XD's and Tauruses. But, they also had some unusual things, like an NAA Guardian, as well as some NAA Mini-revolvers. Which was neat...I had never been to a store that had oneof these in stock before, while this place had enough that you could compare the feel of a Black Widow to a .22LR, to a .22 Mag frame.
And, they had all the pistols arranged nice in neat, in labled colums by caliber. So, leave it to me to be a butt-head. I pointed at one row of Tauruses and asked if the had a Model 731, in .32 H&R Magnum in stock. All that got my was a blank look from the guy behind the counter.
They had a great ammo selection. I still don't think they could beat Wal-Mart's WWB price, but most of their other stuff seamed very competative. And, like I said, a good selection. Stuff like 6.5 X 55, which I haven't seen anywhere else around here.
I'm not a reloader, but I think a place like this could keep reloaders happy for a LONG time. There were two full aisles 25-feet long full of reloading stuff. And then there were cases and cases optics, and knifes, and GPS Gear, and I didn't even look over their archery or fishing sections.
My wife was even happy because she found a little camoflage dress with a pink ribbon that would fit on my daughter.
I didn't buy anything today, because I didn't have my check book. I'm heading back tommorrow though. The had a NEF Handi-Rifle in 7mm/08 that they are only asking $220 for. I'm not sure I can resist. I think it will make a great deer rifle for the wife.
So, to wrap up, if you are a Washington resident, and find yourself running around the Kitsap Penninsula, I recommend swinging by.
With it being less than 4 minutes from my front door, to their front door, I think my life is going to get a lot more expensive.
