Found a birthday gun for a pretty good price last week and I love it! (when it feeds) It's at least as accurate as I am and comfortable to shoot, fits well in my hand and should be good to conceal but ....
The problem is that the slide stop engages intermittently even if the mag isn't empty. This happens with Blazer ammo and American Eagle, and it happens with the new magazine I bought as well as the magazine that was included with the gun. Every once in a while (one mag load out of 8 or so) it'll feed the whole magazine without issue, but on average, most magazine loads exhibit this behaviour 2-4 times.
I did some searching, but didn't find this to be a common problem - Anybody know what I should pursue to fix this?
Thanks!

The slide stop ought to have a spring that keeps it out of the way until the follower in the mag lifts it to engage, assuming it works like the Sigs I have.
Check to see if that spring is broken, or bent, or perhaps crud has built up inside the area it operates in and is infringing upon its proper operation.
The above are my best guesses. Not seeing the actual gun it's all I can do.

It happens with all (well, both) magazines.

When looking at the slide stop, I didn't notice a spring there at all - I'll check out some detail strip videos tonight and confirm - maybe it doesn't have one where it should ...

Grab that gun right now!

OK, where is your thumb? Rule out thumbular interference first.

EDIT to ask, Is this a new gun or used?

Are you right-handed?

If so, does the "problem" occur when you shoot the P220 left-handed? If not, then you have a thumb placement issue.

You wouldn't be the first right-handed owner/shooter to encounter this with a SIG. The rearward location of their slide stop lever engagement tab can position it very close to a right-handed shooter's thumb, especially under recoil as the gun & thumb positions shift momentarily.

If you're left-handed, or the gun continues to exhibit the stoppage when shooting it left-handed, it would be reasonable to take a closer look at the gun.

What Mainsail and fastbolt suggested. Let's rule out operator induced error first.

I checked my grip and my thumb is not fouling the lever, then was able to pull out the block in the middle to see that there's clearly no spring attached to the slide catch lever.
So I reckon I'll get me a $4 spring, figure out how to replace it, test again and call it good.

Hey y'all, just a quick update - Long story short, adding the missing spring worked. (WooHOO!)

Long story long, This thing is a dandy shooter! Easy to shoot the nickel-sized bullseye out of my targets at 7 yards, more so than my Glock 21. Even in DA mode, if I took my time, I could easily hit red. Function was perfect through about 140 rounds of different-branded ammo (Monarch, Rem, Blazer). Muy bonita pistola!

This is most likely the issue. The slide stop spring attached to the locking insert probably needs a tension adjustment or is bent. Also debur the slide stop and the notch for it on the slide.
