I picked up my new Springfield XD.40 Tactical today (4" barrel 10 round mags). I haven't even fired it yet - brought it home, broke it down, cleaned and light lube, reassembled, did it again for practice (sweet). I have about 3k rounds donated by my brother that are hot loads so I replaced the recoil spring and rod with a Wolff 19lb. The Wolff spring also came with a heavier striker spring but that is beyond my capabilities.

Any XD lovers out there that have beneficial mods? Comments?

Just bought a new XD-40. I shoot my full-power handloads exclusively because they are accurate and shoot right to point of aim. I have no plans to modify anything (it ain't broke).

If I were you, I would not consider any mods until I had put a few thousand rounds down range. BTW if yours has a 4-inch barrel, it is a service model not a tactical.

Congrats on your new purchase. I don't know why, but the XD Tactical has proven to be one of my favorite pistols. Feels good, shoots great, and is rugged. I own it in 4 calibers now. You've made a great choice. As an aside, 3 of the 4 tactical models I bought new had the rear sight pushed way over to the left so, consequently, they shot left. (There are witness marks to show where it should be.) Bought a sight pusher and notified Springfield Armory that something at the factory needed checking. Enjoy. And I agree with M1key. I'd take the newer spring assembly with me to the range. But I'd keep it stock until I saw that stock wasn't working.

Of course you are right M1key. It is a service not a tactical. I had just been looking at the tactical and had a cerebral carryover incident. I put the heavier spring in at my brother's recommendation. He is a small arms instructor and gifted me with the hot loads. I really have no intention of further mods until I have gone through a few hundred rounds and gotten the feel of this weapon. However, I always like to know what different people like in mods and why.

I am anxious to feel the difference in my XD and my ParaOrd 12.45 LDA. If it happens as predicted by the bro I will fall in love with the XD and may get rid of the Para. I find it hard to believe that I will like the XD that much, but we will see.

Range time this afternoon.

I don't know exactly what it is about the XD, but people just like them. I like mine a lot. I haven't shot a whole lot of handguns, but have tried some other types of handguns that friends have. I can't really say that I liked them as much as my XD, and usually when I let those friends try the XD, they like it better then their gun.

My XD is one of my favorite if not my favorite. When I introduce a friend into shooting, I always first let them try my XD9.

Ok. I put about 300 rounds downrange and killed tons of paper zombies. No failures or faults. Accuracy is excellent - the more I shot it and got used to it the tighter the grouping. The trigger action and pull is sweet. I found the trigger easing back smoothly and consistently. Recoil was a little stronger than I had anticipated but could have been from the hot loads I was shooting. It handled like a dream and I will definitely enjoy this gun for a long time.
