Activists, lawmakers push for bill to prevent gun violence in the BX and city

(11/12/03) THE BRONX - One Mott Haven resident says gun violence has many in the area living in fear.
That fear has prompted Wallace Hasen to join forces with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, a group that supports legislation that would allow victims of gun violence in NYC to sue gun manufacturers. The group met at City Hall Wednesday to push lawmakers to pass the legislation.

The National Rifle Association is against the bill. A spokesman for the NRA told News 12 The Bronx that the legislation would create frivolous lawsuits aimed at bankrupting law-abiding manufacturers or retailers.

But supporters of the bill say the only way gun trafficking and violence will stop is if gun manufacturers are held liable.

The bill is currently in the Public Safety Committee. Sponsors of the bill say they are confident that they have the support within the City Council to get it passed. The only challenge is to get the bill before the City Council by the end of the year.

I've been a victim of "vehicular violance" several times. Why don't some of us get together and sue car makers for the misuse of their products? They should be liable for everything from accidents to getaway vehicles, no?

Suing General Motors and Honda would take a big bite out of drunken driving, too, and it's going to rain nickels later this evening, I'm sure.

Leftists are looters.

Micro - I'd say it's both, really. They want to control everything (including you) and to take your money to pay for it.

When all these eeeevil gun makers are run out of business, who will make guns for the state?

Yeah, statist does not exactly equal leftist, but it certainly does include them. Unfortunately it seems that being a statist looter is a prerequisite for being a leftist.

Though certainly the same thing applies to those on the right, as well. It's all about the context of what particular political point you're debating.

Micro,

Try not to get too caught up in meaningless terms. You can make fun of "conservatives" all you want, how they don't understand logic, blah, blah, blah, but what is a conservative, or a liberal for that matter?

At the end of the day you will either support freedom or you do not, you want to the govt to tell me how you think I should live or you agree to leave me the hell alone.

Both "conservatives and liberals" all love to jump on tha statist bandwagon when it suits their paticular agenda.

Check your PM:)

Yeah, I bet Colt and HK are in meetings with illegal gun traffickers right this second working on a way to get more weapons into the hands of crack dealers and various other thugs all over New York. Under 21 street thugs are the number one targeted demographic for gun manufacturers after all! Next to children, of course.
