Just finished spending a week at Glen Dene outside Wanaka New Zealand with my wife. Wife accompanied me one morning hunt then did some ladies things with her personal 'guide'. They have a great non-hunter option for couples. Ended up with a 360 class Stag and Arawapa Ram. Top notch operation I'd recommend to anyone.

Nice! I have a cousin who lives out there. How do you get the meat back home? Actually, what can you all bring back to the states?

You can bring 50# (frozen) back as an extra checked bag, otherwise shipping is cost prohibitive. Shipping on horns and capes will be bad enough.

Sometimes I think New Zealand would be an awesome place to hunt. Still a dream of mine to hunt Kangaroos in Australia.
Doubt it'll ever happen though.
International hunting is more possible than the average person thinks, but it is indeed complicated as well. Heck how do I get the international hunting license? I should put that on my list then

That is so cool. I was in NZ a year ago. Whakatane but also visited Auckland and Wellington. Want to go back bad. I enjoyed it more than Australia, but I only saw a very small part of each country.

That's the ONLY thing about Aus/New Zealand gun control I wish we would have here, suppressors being free to buy...
Suppressors are so common there, you're impolite if you don't use a suppressor. For real, what's the big deal against suppressors here in the states? They act like it turns a loud 500 into the sound you hear from the movies. Lawmakers don't know true reality.

It was nice to take the shot and hear impact 130yds down range without the shot echo bouncing off the mountain sides.

Kangaroos are going to be a tough one unless you are a licensed commercial shooter in Australia.

P.S.

If there are any Ausies on this sight who have better info please chime in.

So cool. That's a rack that would make Dolly Parton blush and that ram is unbelievable looking. Congrats on such a cool hunt.

Air New Zealand out of LA - fantastic service.
Flew Premium Economy on the way down, flying Std Economy on the way back tomorrow but paid for an exit row. I'll let you know the difference in comfort / service.

Awesome! Thanks I’ll be looking forward to hearing about it.

Premium Economy service was fantastic. Big comfy seats, good drink and excellent 3 course dinner.
Std Economy had regular plane seats, we paid for exit row so lots of leg room. Drink menu was limited and food was more TV dinner style.
All that being said Premium Econo was 2x Econ price, but only 1/2 Business class.
Glad we did Premium on the way there, arrived relaxed and rested. On the way back just ready to be home.
Any questions about the experiance just ask.

Anyone with an NZ Firearms License can have/use long guns for sporting purposes. (Self defense is not a valid reason to have firearms in NZ)
Special classes of licenses are available for pistols and "military style semi-automatics" - also for sporting purposes.
Anyone without a FAL can use guns "under direct supervision" of a license holder of the appropriate class.

You can hunt on any private land.
Hunting on Public/DOC (government) reserves/parks requires a permit which is easy to obtain.

Those are some nice examples there ford8nr, and with in prime scenery. Glad you enjoyed it, and the weather stayed civilised for you (at least I assume it did - you didn't mention drowning)

Weather was very nice, may be a little too warm. Drizzled the morning I shot the Stag and poured after we got off the mountain.

Unfortunately, due to the terror shooting there this week, their PM is talking heavy gun control. Have to see how that shakes out re: sporting arms.

It will likely go the way of Australian Firearms legislation after Port arthur (another one I consider t be a false-flag attack)
The politicians aren't very smart and lack imagination.

I'm pretty sure shooting people was illegal last week too.
