Newbie Powder Question

For a new reloader I would advise you to use Unique. Its good for the calibers you are reloading, forgiving, and will fill the case up so you won't double charge.

From what Cabelas had in stock I would suggest Win231/HP38 or Universal.
Both meter well and work well in both cartridges.
Both are fairly bulky so they take up more space in the case.

Titegroup shoots well and meters well but it has a low case volume so I would not recommend it for a new reloader. (easy to double charge)

Unique shoots well but meters poorly in smaller charge amounts.
While many like it I don't like to deal with the fact that it meters poorly in my equipment. Universal is about the same burn speed, burns cleaner and meters better.

Lots of powders that will work for those rounds.

If you are after heavier P+ loads in .38 you will want something slower than 231 or Universal.

Was that 45 acp or LC?

As for +p 38 spcl., it doesn't get much better than Longshot IMO. I burn a lot of it in 38, 9mm, and .40, and it flat out takes care of business in those.

If in fact 45 lc is on the list, HS6 has been a real winner for me with that. It functions very well with every weight bullet. HS6 is also a great powder for +P 38 spcl., though I much prefer Longshot given the option.

For many years I've used bullseye, Unique, and WST in .38 spec., .45 acp and .40S&W. There are lots of other powders to choose from but I never felt i had to try every one on the shelf. I'm not that good of a shot to begin with. Lets go shoot and have a little fun...that was all I really expected.
