I was told to come here insted of the shotgun forum to check on this, I have A Newport 410. It says newport on the left side of the gun and it has a serial number behind the trigger cover. It is a single shot with the lever like double barrells, not the trigger gaurd ones. It Shots good. I picked it up at the local gun show for $65. Since it was a good price, i got it.

Can you tell me if i got a deal and how old it is?

Thanks
:)

If it shoots well the price isn't too bad. Someone tried to sell me a rusted old Iver Johnson for more than that last year. He didn't succeed.

Can you post a pic of the gun?
I can't place it just by the name.
It may a hardware store branded gun, or one of the same type. There were lots and lots of them.

One of the guys at the show said it was an Iver Johnson, i'll try to post a picture by tonight, but if not, tommorow.

It breaks apart real easy to, It just snaps together.

Newport was a trade name used by the H&D Folsom Arms Co. Odds are it was made by Crescent Arms Co. If the shot gun was in good shape 65 may not be a bad price, but then again you can get a new single shot shotgun for around a 100$.

I believe Newport is a trade name used by Hibbard, Spencer, and Bartlett; a wholesale hardware house from Chicago. H.S.B. Co. is best known today as the mother of the "True Value" trade name. There are a few collectors of H.S.B. Co. items, they are usually after pieces marked with the "Our Very Best" trade name logo.

Newport was the trade name used by H&D Folsom Arms on Guns it sold to Hibbard, Spencer, Barlett and Company of Chicago. If there are no proof marks then it was made by Crescent Arms Co, ( which was owned by H&D Folsom), if there is a ELG in an oval then it is Belgium made. It's hard to date these guns because all records were lost during WWII. Some say the records were lost in a fire, another version has a Stevens employee donating them to a war time paper drive. I like the second version, either way no records are available.

I also have a Newport, passed down from my grandfather. Mine is in excellent shape. I also was told not to shoot the Red Plastic shot, but the Paper shots in it.
