Just came into some .76 gr. lead flat point slugs for the .32. Anyone have a good safe load for this cal. for plinking. The powder I have on hand is =HP38== titegroup== auto comp==7625 Thanks in advance

I'm sure that is a typo and the bullets are 76gr, not .76gr...

Yes, I have a good load the 32 Auto, it's 2.2gr HP-38 and IMO you have the best powder for loading the .32 Auto which is W231/HP-38.

Depending upon what pistol you are shooting you might need slightly more powder even though that is an above middle of the range load. It's very accurate for me, I'm shooting them in a Kel-Tec P-32 and a CZ-27.

I run 75 gr. hardcast lead flat points (Rim Rock bullets - same bullet Buffalo Bore uses in the .32 auto offering) over 2.3 - 3.1 gr. of Unique and find 2.6 gr. makes a nice all around .32 auto practice round. OAL on mine is .910" and I run CCI Small Pistol primers in mixed brass with just enough taper crimp to take the bell off.

I do love my .32 auto and feed 4 Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols with this recipe. No idea of recipes using the powders you have available, sorry about that. I list mine for reference.

VooDoo

I've had a lot of success with 2.2gr. of W231 under a 78gr. LRN. If HP38 is indeed identical to W231 it should work fine with your 76gr. It runs a Colt 1903 and Bersa 32 fine. It does ok in a Kel-tec P32 as long as it has a couple hundred rounds on the springs.

Thanks to all. I will be shooting Kel-tec P32 with a Laserlyte sight. Will load some tomorrow. I'm one of the lucky ones who bought the Lee micro disks when they were still making them

Yeah, the Micro-Disk is a handy tool to have, I also bought one.

Don't forget the range report...

My range is my back yard. I have it set at 7yds. 15 yds. and25 yds. My neighbors love me when I get going for hours at a time.
Want to get a chrono soon and will be asking some advice on that also.
Be well and have a Merry Christmas to all. Howie

I have been using a PACT Model 1 XP for about 7 years now. I like it but then again, I have never used any other chrono so I have nothing to compare it to. I suggest you look at a handful of chronos in your price range and pick the one with the features you want.

I prefer Bullseye in the .32.
However, you'll get higher velocities with 231.
I'd try starting at 1.8 of #231 and work up to where you get smooth consistent functioning and call it good. Lyman gives 2.5gr as max and most accurate in Manual #48.
Most of the 231 I've shot through the .32 has been with 60gr JHP's. I use 2.9gr for ~1,000fps. This closely matches the Fiocchi factory load velocity, but the 60gr Hornady XTP is a vastly superior bullet. Ditto the Speer GoldDot.
2.7gr is more accurate and less stressful on the gun.

My preferred load with my 78gr Lyman RN is 2.0gr o Bullseye with the KelTec.
With the Berreta TomCat, I used 1.8gr. The recoil operated action of the KelTec is "happier" with 2.0.
BTW; my KelTec shoots to POI/POA at ~7yds.
A very useful little pistol!
I work-out by walking a woodland trail along a large impoundment near my house and carry the KelTec in my pocket daily.

edited to add:
I "tagged" my ancient Chrony (before the F1; still had cardboard diffusers) with gas-checks from some .338ME loads I was working with. I replaced it with the "Caldwell Ballistic Chronograph". I'm very pleased with it. It sets up quick, and is very sensitive on bullet passage and much, much less sensitive to low light and low angles of light. I bought mine about a year ago when they were less than $80. They've gone up considerably the last time I saw one advertised.
