I saw a nickel plated Colt Cobra this afternoon. The serial number suggested that it was an early / mid-60s gun. The finish was smooth and shiny everywhere except the cylinder which appeared to be matte nickel finish. Note, it did not appear worn...the cylinder looked to be intentionally matte finish. Was the gun ever made this way? The combination of bright and matte finish looked horrible. I guessed that somebody replaced the cylinder but was told that the gun is original. Has anybody seen this before? Could this be original?

Thanks

Not on a 1960's Colt.

In the 1960's, the only nickel plating you saw was bright polish. I don't think I ever saw any pistols with any type of bright satin finish, least of all a Colt.

I suspect a refinished cylinder.
