Has anyone ever attended, or know of any good training for night time shooting in California? I've attended all kinds of firearms training classes during the day, but I think it is important to train at night too. For one, because statistically I am more likely to be involved in a shooting at night. And secondly, because there are so many variables at night that you don't have to deal with during daytime shooting (i.e. manipulating a flashlight, bright muzzle flash, etc.).

I would think that any reputable school would be able to arrange a night training class.

Some of the drills can be done in a darkened home, with an unloaded pistol. It fact, it may be more beneficial to do so since that is where a lot of interaction with BG's occur.

Hint: keep the flashlight small. Nothing larger than a 3 C-cell job. Smaller is better.

I'll second the classes by Walt Marshall. He will incorporate night/low-light into his multi-day courses as well as teach special night classes.

Walt is a true gunfighter. Started as a Ranger in Vietnam, then was a cop for ~20 years in Richmond, CA. Participated in about 6000 high-risk entries. He has trained LEOs, Border patrol, SEALs and Delta operators.

Ever go to some of the indoor ranges i go to? Most of those are so poorly lit it would qualify.

I've done "low light" shooting before. I'm really looking for night shooting (i.e. very dark) where you are forced to use a flashlight to even see your target.

Wiley,

Please, this is not meant to offend you, however, low light training, when it comes to tactical firearms training, has come a long way from "shooting with a flashlight." There are principles, there are techniques, there is alot of things: front lighting, back lighting, operating from the lowest level of light, carrying more then one light, etc.

I suggest you search the internet and find some other solutions. I also suggest you go to this website:

Great information on low light training.

tetleyb,

I don't know why I would be offended. Buy anyways, like I said, I've done plenty of low light shooting. What I thought I asked about was "night shooting". The flashlight analogy was just meant to illustrate what I consider "night" to be, because I have attended so-called "night shoots" which were actually "low light" (in fact, plenty of light) shoots.

Thanks for the website referral. I'll check them out.
